GEN Y THIS WEEK

Geek Week, Geek Out

This week marks what YouTube hopes is the first of many Geek Weeks. Are you an anime obsessed, game addicted, and comic-reading geek? Great! There has never been a better time for you to literally “geek-out” and celebrate what you are. Being a geeky bunch here at Brill Street, we would like to take part and share some of the things we’ve seen this week that has us hoping the celebration continues on for years to come.

How to Make a Viral Video

What better way to start off Geek Week than with one of YouTube’s very own Geek videos. Smash Mouth’s “All Star” parody by SoulPancake captures what it takes to go viral online as the video likewise goes viral this week. The video features musician and comedian Dave Days and makes references to Rebecca Black, Tay Zonday and others as it successfully explains what a viral video encompasses. The parody exhibits a perfect blend of truth and ridicule to make this video number one on our Geek Week list.

Insta-Ads

Earn money through an app that you already use daily? Geeked! The app “Snap My Ad” was created to reward brand enthusiasts who already take photos with Instagram. Users can now take their hipster-filtered photos and apply them to the iOS app as they tag and create ads for brands they love. Once the brand and the photographer have agreed on a reward, the brand can use the picture freely in their own advertisements!

YouTube has taken “geek” to another level. By typing “use the force luke” in YouTube’s browser, you can use your mouse to convert the screen into a force field with more add-on’s from YouTube to come. Whether you love it or loathe it, we all have some Totoro loving, Harry Potter Playlist, Lithium-Polymer Rechargeable Battery genes.

What do you geek out about?
